The Secret to Employee Retention? Continuous Learning

PEOPLE MANAGER PROGRAMME (Train The Trainer)

Kent were looking to build a suite of signature development programmes for their managers and leaders, supporting them with modern leadership behaviours in line with their vision, beliefs and culture.

Excel supported in designing a People Manager Programme for their people and culture team to roll out globally. Ensuring a sustainable approach to delivery.

We Understood Kent's Needs

What Did It Entail?

In 2024, Kent partnered with Excel to support the development of two key leadership programmes, aimed at strengthening the capabilities of their people managers and leaders. Kent sought a globally consistent approach to leadership development—one that was adaptable to local needs and deeply aligned with their organisational values and culture.

Excel collaborated closely with Kent to co-design two bespoke programmes that met these goals. Central to the success of the initiative was a thorough discovery and design phase, during which Excel invested significant time in understanding Kent’s culture, values, and strategic objectives. This ensured that the programmes felt like a natural extension of Kent’s identity.

Once the design was finalised, Excel delivered a comprehensive Train-the-Trainer programme to Kent’s People and Culture team. This provided them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to roll out the programmes globally with consistency and impact.

The People Manager Program comprises three modules, each lasting 3–4 hours depending on the delivery format (virtual or face-to-face), delivered over a 1–2 month period. The programme includes written materials, peer coaching, and manager coaching to reinforce learning. The Train-the-Trainer process took place over two months, during which members of the People and Culture team experienced the programme first-hand, followed by a three-day intensive "teach-back" session. During this, participants delivered segments of the programme and received feedback and coaching to refine their delivery.

Twelve members of the People and Culture team across various global locations were successfully trained to deliver the programme. To further support consistency and quality, Excel provided additional group coaching, one-to-one coaching, and conducted final assessments to accredit the trainers.

Since its launch, the People Manager Programme has generated a highly positive response across Kent.
